Can Tho Kitchen Bar
When Tara & Vien took over the running of their mother’s restaurant, they had a vision to transform the space & brand into something that felt more modern & authentic. Escape Plan Designs were asked to help the consultant team develop the brand personality & story for Can Tho Kitchen Bar, which communicated the restaurant’s heritage & embraced the Vietnamese community atmosphere of share plates & communal seating, in a modern take on the theme.
The integrated design was centred on the concept of authenticity. Embracing the story of the new & old owners, Tara & her mother, the design focused on their personal journey from Vietnam to Australia in the 1980’s & translated these stories into the details of the branding & interior design.
Since Can Tho Kitchen Bar re-opened in October 2014 bookings & revenue have more than doubled. Brand awareness has increased, drawing new clientele from near & far. The atmosphere is extremely inviting, & the service & food are exceptional. Quality of staff applications has improved & staff satisfaction is high, with Tara & Vien finding it hard to encourage staff to go home at the end of their shift! There is now a need to increase staffing levels to meet demand. The outcome is beyond expectations & is an emotive response to a real, meaningful, authentic family story that is now more clearly communicated to patrons, old & new through the space and the branding.
Cloudland Function Rooms & Empire Hotel
Engaged in 2011, Escape Plan Designs’ initial brief was to transform the long-standing institution that was The Empire Hotel Nightclub into a series of unique function rooms across 2 floors. These new rooms were to compliment the adjacent complex Cloudland owned by Brisbane nightclub heavyweights The Katarzyna Group. The result was 3 individual spaces that each have their own personality, but embody the luxurious & quirky feel of their bigger sister, Cloudland.
Following the success of this work, Escape Plan Designs was then asked to complete the ground floor refurbishment of The Empire Hotel into a rustic, masculine & atmospheric sports bar. The outcome is a moody, stripped-back space that serves some of the best beers & pizzas in town & adds another feather to the cap of the interlinked Cloudland/Empire Hotel complex.
